Air Clamp System
Sierra controllers offers a air clamp system to enable the bender operator to secure a tube on the bender.  This system allows the operator to clamp up on a tube without having to manually hold the tube.  This system simplifies the safety requirement for two handed operation on the controller while clamping.  All COMPTROL controllers come with the ability to force two handed operation while clamping and the interface to an air clamp system.

The red air clamp in the picture has a ram which is adjusted to press the mandrel rod and tube against the radius block thereby securing it while clamping.  The Air Clamp is manually toggled on and off by the AIR button on the front of the controller and is automatically turned off at the beginning of the bend cycle after clamping.

We have been using this system for many years at our bending facility to meet MIOSHA regulations.
